The Salve Regina University chapter of Sigma Beta Delta, in Newport, RI, held a bake sale for the benefit of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), a pan-African Non Government Organization that promotes girls’ and women’s education in sub-Saharan Africa (www.fawe.org ). Mrs. Odette Mutanguha, from the Rwanda chapter, visited our university and spoke to students about the great need to help these women and change policies.
Co-ordinated by Ashley Gouin and Lindsay Blais, members of Sigma Beta Delta baked goods and offered time to work the sale table. In 3 hours, $250 was raised from generous Salve students, faculty and staff for ‘pay-what-want’ baked goods. Mrs. Mutanguha has written to express gratitude and inform us of the importance this funding will provide towards helping the underserved women in her country.
