The Lifelong Benefits of Sigma Beta Delta Membership

Lifetime Recognition for Outstanding Academic Achievements

Sigma Beta Delta membership provides lifetime recognition. Because the Society honors scholastic excellence in business and membership is earned, it is appropriate to include Sigma Beta Delta on your résumé and LinkedIn profile. Employers across the country recognize this distinction as evidence of outstanding academic achievement.

The Sigma Beta Delta Scholarship Program awards scholarships annually to qualifying Sigma Beta Delta members. Each local chapter may nominate one new eligible SBD member per academic year. Click here to find out more about this program.

Potential for Higher Level of Entrance in Federal Employment

Another tangible benefit of belonging to Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society is the potential for increased pay for federal jobs entering at a GS-7 level, a two-grade interval above a GS-5. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) states that entrance at the GS-7 level in numerous professional and technical occupations can be obtained by completing a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement (SAA), as long as the applicant meets the requirements described in the job announcement. Membership in Sigma Beta Delta, a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, is evidence of SAA. For further information see Superior Academic Achievement at OPM.gov Policies.

As Sigma Beta Delta (SBD) is a member society of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), several scholarships for programs and internships are available for Sigma Beta Delta members through the ACHS. These opportunities include The Fund for American Studies, The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, The Osgood Center, The PhD Project, and United Planet. Mentor Program – presented by Ambition in Motion

Sigma Beta Delta partners with Ambition In Motion to create the Sigma Beta Delta Mentor Program. We are building a mentor program to connect students with alumni for professional guidance and mentorship. Participating in this mentor program can work with your schedule and help you form mentor relationships that last a lifetime and open doors for you. Click here for more on this program.

Networking Opportunities

Sigma Beta Delta campus chapters can assist in advancing the career opportunities of members. As members graduate and assume important positions in the business community, they provide excellent sources of help and guidance for future employment. The chance for Sigma Beta Delta student and alumni members to network with business professionals places them a step ahead of the employment competition. Members can join our private network on LinkedIN here.

SBD members are lifelong learners. Educational goals often do not end with the first degree. Several of our member schools offer post-graduate opportunities such as master’s degrees, advanced and specialized certificates, and additional post-graduate educational opportunities.  In addition, SBD lifetime membership offers a unique resource for obtaining a PhD.

The PhD Project encourages ACHS member society students to participate in an expansive network of support that helps African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and Native Americans attain their business Ph.D., become business school professors and serve as role models to attract the next generation of minority business leaders.

The Society publishes Aspirations annually for distribution to the membership. The newsletter keeps the membership informed of Sigma Beta Delta’s activities and current business issues. Click here for a library of past issues.
